Tour Windy Valley Musk Ox Farm

Nash Farm:  A Real Alaskan Farm in a Historic Valley
In addition to seeing the muskox at Windy Valley, you will experience seeing a real Alaskan working farm in the heart of the Matanuska Susitna Valley. This river valley is historic for many reasons.  For hundreds of years, the Athabaskan Indians who lived in this region actively used the trails along the rivers as trading routes. Miners then settled in the area in the early 1900s. Farmers followed, relocated from the Midwest during the 1930s Great Depression to homestead in the Palmer region for the start of agriculture in the great new territory of Alaska. On your trip to Windy Valley Muskox, you will see this farming history reflected along the way in the panorama of traditional Alaskan barns and log homes of the original colonists who hand cleared the land and built houses from the trees.

The 220-acre Nash family farm is nestled in a spectacular valley with a backdrop of white capped mountain peaks. It is close to, yet distant in sprit, from the population center of Palmer.  The rural and rustic setting of the farms captures Alaska’s wilderness beauty where muskox and horses roam free in 40-acre enclosures. The stunning drive to the farm winds from the Glenn Highway through glacial valleys, hills, streams and trees. Once there, you’ll see a real Alaskan farm, with vegetable and flower gardens, horses, chickens, a mule, hay making and other traditional farming pursuits.  It is an outstanding cultural and educational experience for both adults and children.  The trip is stimulating for Alaskans and especially ideal for visitors who will experience the “real” Alaska from a unique perspective and view the living ancient animals that few people will ever see.
